Hospital Call 

The Certified Orthotists and Prosthetists at AMPOS Orthopaedics service all of the major hospitals in Ottawa when physicians decide that their patients are in need of orthotic or prosthetic intervention. We commonly see patients in the hospital who require spinal braces post-surgery, or those who are in need of other orthotic or prosthetic devices while they are in the hospital. The procedure for visiting the hospital is as follows:

  1. If a device is not fitting properly, please contact AMPOS as soon as possible at 613-745-3173. Devices can be modified to optimize the fit for individual patients.

  2. The patient is expected to visit one of our offices for a follow-up two weeks after being discharged from the hospital.

  3. Any adjustments to the orthosis are under warranty and are included in the cost. The warranty is generally one year from when it is dispensed, unless there is a change in medical condition or the damage is due to some irregular use.

Procedure for Hospitals

Our Policy

  1. The hospital will contact AMPOS Orthopaedics by telephone or fax.  They will provide information to AMPOS including:

    • The name of patient and their room and bed number

    • The prescribing doctor’s name

    • The device required

    • Name and telephone number of next of kin,

    • Height and weight of patient.

  2. It must be clear to the patient that there is a cost to the device.  There is a hospital service charge of $40.00, which is included in the prices provided.

  3. The prescribing doctor must provide a prescription (Rx) to the patient, and a second copy must be left on the patient’s chart for us.

  4. We will complete an assessment at the hospital within 1 business day of the initial call.

  5. Provided that funding goes through, we will deliver the device 2 business days after the assessment date when there is confined bed rest, otherwise all other devices will be delivered within one week.
